Feudal Aids 1303
The following excerpt shows that if the Bishop might still be fighting for possession of Somersham with the Abbot of Ely, there was no doubt as to who was ultimately in charge! 1303 The Bishop of Ely holds the manor of Somersham with his portions in the aforesaid Hundred (ie Hurstingstone) and all other lands and tenements of his there and elsewhere in various counties of the Lord King, by plea of liberty through four “services” done to order. And he does not hold other lands.
