The de Argentein family appear to have arrived in England with William the Conqueror and by the end of the 12th century they were established on land in Somersham manor (amongst many holdings held across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire)where they rendered half a Knights service in return for 200 acres.
