Somersham in the Later Middle Ages
1350-1485

The term Middle Ages is much abused and so we will be precise about how we have used it in the context of the history of Somersham. We have taken it as a link between the era of the Vikings to the arrival of the Tudors. For ease of reference as this is in many ways the apogee of the town of Somersham, we have split the topic into three parts.

During the later Middle Ages the fortunes of Somersham declined somewhat. The Bishop's of Ely were less prominent on the national stage. On the plus side the area played little part in the shifting fortunes of the wars of the roses as a result.
